100913 1 King 11-12

1 Kings 11
11.1  loved many foreign women...  Part 3 of Solomon's three part downfall. "acquire many wives" De. 17.16-17
11.3b  And his wives turned away his heart.  This is a verse they every older childd should memorize and meditate on before their hormones kick in.
11.41  the rest of the acts of Solomon...  This is a depressing statement.  How much of my life will fits in the "and the rest of his acts" category?
.
1 Kings 12

12.2   Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon... Now this begs the question of what kind of relationship Solomon really had with the Egyptians, if they would harbor someone who was trying to unseat him.
12.8  At this point I am screaming, "Don't be an idiot!!"
12.13  forsaking the counsel of the old men...  more screaming...
12.15  a turn of affairs brought about by the Lord that He might fulfill his Word...  This is another example of the folly of men completing God's will.  Free agency (or in this case stupidity) and the soveriegnty of God going hand in hand.  Blows my mind.
